Every Wednesday afternoon, instead of settling into their couches in front of their TVs, a group of metro-Detroit volunteers meet at a park in the city. The people of the Detroit Mower Gang, as they are affectionately known, bring their lawn mowers and string trimmers to the abandoned parks of Detroit and restore the playgrounds for kids to enjoy this summer.
Last month, RepairClinic was an official sponsor of their 24-hour Mowtown Mowdown by Husqvarna mow-a-thon. For 24 hours, the Mower Gang and dozens of new volunteers cleared several miles of Detroit’s abandoned parklands.
RepairClinic.com’s own in-house landscaping and outdoor power equipment specialist Jeff Linderman spent the whole day with the Gang on his John Deere.
“It was an incredibly rewarding experience,” he said. “After we cleared the areas around the playscapes, children rushed to play. When they learned that we were volunteers, it made an impact. They appreciated it.”
As an official sponsor of the event, RepairClinic provided safety goggles and replacement lawn mower blades, spark plugs, oil, safety goggles and other essential replacement parts to keep the mowers going.
We also provided a brand-new Kawasaki string trimmer and RepairClinic apparel.
