Your dishwasher can efficiently clean other everyday items in addition to dishware, utensils and cookware.
If you’re unsure if an item should be washed in a dishwasher, place it on the top rack or wash by hand. Items will small attachments or embellishments such as rhinestones should never be washed in a dishwasher, due to risk of damage to the dishwasher.
Here are 14 everyday things you can wash in your dishwasher:
- Stroller and car cup holders.
- Soap dishes.
- Toothbrushes.
- Toothbrush holders.
- Mouth guards.
- Hair combs.
- Plastic desk accessories such as writing utensil holders and paper sorters.
- Dustpans.
- Microwave oven glass trays.
- Plastic children’s and pet toys.
- Vacuum attachments.
- Kitchen sponges.
- Scrub brushes for vegetables, sinks, floors, etc.
- Small trash cans.
Note: Do not put in exceptionally tiny or fragile items that may be damaged easily or fall through the cracks into the drain pump.
Despite the many internet articles that suggest you can clean vegetables, cook fish and process preserves in a dishwasher, don’t do it.
