Happy Earth Day, friends!
In honor of this important day, we recently swapped our appliance and outdoor power equipment repair tools for shovels.
Last Saturday, dozens of RepairClinic.com team members gathered to help make planting trees easier for an extraordinary organization that’s restoring the greenness of Detroit.
It was 35 degrees outside, hailing and snowing (yes, on April 13th!) but RepairClinic.com employees were all smiles while digging holes and planting 70 trees in a Detroit neighborhood.
Over the last several decades, the city of Detroit has lost thousands of trees to due disease and urban expansion. Since its establishment in 1989, The Greening of Detroit™ has planted thousands of trees in the city.
RepairClinic.com’s participation in this event was led by RepairClinic Outreach, a group of employees dedicated to making a positive impact, locally and nationally. Every year, RepairClinic Outreach supports several non-profit organizations through volunteerism and fundraising.
“We care,” said Janice Eaton, a Customer Care rep for RepairClinic.com. “That’s the thing about RepairClinic employees: we really care.”
Currently, the group is fundraising for its Relay for Life® team to benefit the American Cancer Society®. Next weekend, the group will help improve the homes of local elderly or disabled community members by repairing appliances and major home repair projects.
The Greening of Detroit is a well-established, nonprofit resource agency that partners with federal, state and local agencies, corporations and foundations to assist neighborhood groups, churches and schools in their efforts to improve the ecosystem in Detroit through tree planting projects, environmental education, urban agriculture, open space reclamation, vacant land management, and workforce development programs. More information about The Greening of Detroit is available at GreeningofDetroit.com.
